Is the incense from a religious altar harmful?

Are incense sticks harmful to kittens?

  • Pretty self-explanatory question. I try to keep a door or window(s) open for proper ventilation. The sticks i light come from India, and you light it and let it burn. Will it be harmful to my kitten, even if I am lighting in another room? Can anyone show me some proof/experiences regarding whether it is harmful or not?

  • Answer:

Normally it would not be a problem as the amount of smoke generated is minimal. But realize that kittens get into and onto everything, and are curious. So make sure they cannot be tipped over. But I have some misgivings about the origin of the sticks from India, since there may be things in the incense that are toxic when burned, and would not be found in incense sticks made in the US. Remember, a kitten has tiny lungs, and it doesn't take that much toxicity to cause problems.

IMO yes it would. To be honest, you really do not know what all is in the sticks when it comes from a foreign company. Why take the chance?
