How long should I wait to contact a prospective employer after the interview?

Should I follow up after an interview even though my employer says she will contact me first?

• It's been a week since I interviewed for an intern position. I was the first potential candidate for this internship. During the interview, my employer said "we're still reviewing other candidates, so we will contact you first if you get the job offer". I'm a bit hesitant to call because all my communication with my employer has been through email and the interview and I don't want to annoy them which can potentially hurt my chances of getting the job. Any constructive feedback will be highly appreciated.

  I would wait another week and if there is no reply, then I would wright or, call them. And very nicely let them know that you had been waiting for them to contact you about the position in question, and would like to know if it was still avelible. Some components arenot organized enough to be able to give you a straight answer, so you need to make sure that you talk to the person in whom you would be working for.
