Is a Criminal Justice Degree worth it?

Im interested in a Criminal Justice degree but not sure if i want to be a cop?

  • PLEASE READ BEFORE ANSWERING hello i am about to start college in a couple months, i've been doing research on what kind of degree i am interested in, i have been trying to figure out what i want to major in for several months now and i still can't decide and it gets kind of frustrating sometimes. At first i was thinking business degree and then maybe a degree in education but i heard its best to major in something that you are really interested in not just any degree. After hearing that i decided to maybe go with criminal justice, i have always been interested in criminal justice its always been an interesting and exciting topic for me, but with that said i feel that a criminal justice degree is so limited on the type of careers you can get, i have not ruled out being a police officer but i question it at times just because its so stressful so my question is what would you do if you were in my position? P.S. please answer sincerely I'm actually looking for some good advice. Thanks

  • Answer:

My advice is that you take your core required classes (the ones that are required for any degree) and take electives that interest you. I'm not sure why you think you need to declare a major as a freshman. You don't. You don't need to declare a major until you are ready to graduate - if it really comes down to this. And many of the electives are acceptable for a number of different possible majors (criminal justice, sociology, psychology, political science, history are all majors that share required classes).
