Question about background check?

I recently applied for a job and I have a question regarding the background check.?

• So I applied to Golfsmith, which is like a sports authority but just for golf. I had the interview today and i did very well. The hiring manager said the next step is the background check. I got a charge about 9 months ago (freshman year of college) and it was a possession of marijuana charge. I went to court for that, and i did all my hours/ classes and it was DISMISSED about 2 months ago. For this background check, what exactly will come up? Will the charge not even come up at all? Will it come up and say dismissed? Will i be drug tested since the charge is related to marijuana? Will they even know details of the charge? I know its a lot I'm asking but any insight on the topic is much appreciated. Thank you!!!!

  Yes the marijuana charge will come up on the background check. It is possible that the hiring manager will hold this against you. It is fair to say that no one is desperate to hire someone with a criminal background. A drug test would be the next logical step provided you pass the background check and the manager is still interested. Each hiring manager has his/her own criteria of what is or is not acceptable regarding a potential employee's background. You will need to wait and see. I would encourage you not to stop your job search until you get hired and start working. The competition among job seekers is fierce and some employers are overly critical about past mistakes.
