How to solve two Windows 7 Computers having an IP conflict via Sky Router?

  • Hello, Recently I have wired up two Windows 7 operating computers to our Sky Broadband Router and since doing so, I keep receiving a message stating that our IP Addresses are the same. I have been browsing Google and whatnot to find a solution with no luck and we are experiencing problems on certain pages we browse and whatnot. Does anyone please know how I can make it so that our router gives both computers a unique IP Address? Best Regards, Tim

    You can set both to have static IP addresses (or just one so they dont conflict) Check source for a link on how to do this. Hope that helps edit: If both were set to different static addresses they wont conflict. Are you sure you set the gateway and preferred DNS to your routers address? All you are doing is forcing it to do what it has been doing automatically. If you really have no luck setting static I would say its a router problem. Reset both to automatic again and make sure no other devices have static IPS and then reboot the router and both computers (Unplug router for 2-3 minuts and reconnect)

DHCP Server will always issue a unique IP address in its range until all are allocated. Either both Windows 7 have the same Static IP account or one does and it has one the router already issued. If not do a firmware upgrade on your Sky BroadBand Router as thats where the problem lies...

What you can do is tell computer A to always make it's ip something such as 192.168.1.20 and computer B to make it's ip always 192.168.1.25 (these ip address are different). You can do this by following the instructions here: http://blog.mclaughlinsoftware.com/2009/11/26/windows-7-static-ip/
