School bus stop sign law violation?

• Im 16 years old in Illinois and right after school in our bus lane area a bus was parked outside with its stop sign out, i wait behind other cars behind the bus and wait to go. the bus driver let us pass and put the sign away and waved us by. i followed the other cars through the lane with the bus on one side and the cars passing on the other. but when i was going through the lane just like everyone else the bus honked its horn and put the sign up when i was in the middle of passing the bus. so basically i was passing the bus and when i was in the middle of passing the bus it honked its horn and put the sign up. i couldnt stop and just pulled on through. is this illegal? ps. when the driver put the sign up the front of my car was like a foot behind the front of the bus and i really couldnt see the sign getting put up. can i be expecting a letter in the mail about this?
