Lyme Disease WB Test Result Help?

  • I've had the Western Blot test done many times. This is my most recent one for March & this is what it says.. IgG P93- Absent IgG P66- Absent IgG P58- Present- Abnormal IgG P45- Absent IgG P41- Present- Abnormal IgG P39- Absent IgG P30- Absent IgG P28- Absent IgG P23- Absent IgG P18- Absent Lyme IgG WB Interp. - Negative Positive: 5 of the following Borrelia-specific bands: 18, 23, 28, 30, 39, 41, 58, 66, 93 IgM P41- Present- Abnormal IgM P39- Absent Igm P23- Present- Abnormal Lyme IgM WB Interp- Positive- Abnormal In another section of the test it says.. EBV Acute Infection Antibodies EBV Ab VCA, IgM - 1.7- High I have a very vague understanding of the results. I know IGm is current, active exposure & IgG is a past exposure. I would just like an opinion from someone else, or a similar experience to share. I have all the typical symptoms of Lyme, for the past 8 months. Thanks :)

You need to discuss your labs with the doctor who ordered them. Your doctor has copies of your previous labs in your chart, can make a comparison and can interpret these recent results. This cannot be said about people at Yahoo! Answers. I cannot interpret these labs for you (that's your doctor's job) but I can give you general information. Ig's are immunoglobulins. They're antibodies and antibodies are proteins made by the body in response to an antigen (foreign protein). Did you have a CSF band study or was this using blood plasma? It's on the report: "Positive: 5 of the following Borrelia-specific bands: 18, 23, 28, 30, 39, 41, 58, 66, 93". I can put this another way...a result that's positive for Borrelia burgdorferi, or B. burgdorferi, will have abnormal levels of five specific immunoglobulin bands from the following: P18, 23, 28, 30, 39, 41, 58, 66 & 93. Bands are designated with P and a number. The EBV is another matter. This is Epstein-Barr virus. The EBV Ab VCA IgM is Epstein-Barr virus immunoglobulin M antibody to viral capsid antigen. It's a test that looks for the specific antibody, IgM, to determine if there's a current or recent infection. The normal range (negative) for this is 0.0-0.8. Your lab may use a different reference range. Your symptoms could be due to an active EBV infection so follow up on your labs. Again, please confer with your doctor.

Your symptoms could be due to something other than Lyme disease. It would be best to discuss this with your physician.
