How to become an Early Years teacher?

How many years of education do you have to do to become a qualified teacher?

  • i want to be a teacher when im older but i don't know how many years it will take in college and uni to become a qualified teacher. HELP!

  • Answer:

It is possible to take a teaching degree such as a BEd in three to four years. In my case, I took a subject degree, (A BSc) then later (actually, many years later!) I took a Post Graduate Certificate in Education, which took me one year part-time. This gives my full qualified teacher status. The only problem with the PGCE route is that you are expected to be observed teaching as part of the assessment, so there is a bit of a chicken/egg problem!

Other answers

The other answers are basically correct but there are several routes into primary teaching, more info here http://www.education.gov.uk/get-into-teaching/

To teach what? primary or secondary? count on 4-5 as you need the degree first, as you also do a probationary year
