How to control individual functions in excel chart?

Questions about excel?

  • Im working on a take home exam for my college computers class and one of my assignments is to do an excel spreadsheet. I have to insert a 2d pie chart based on two ranges that are non adjacent (a5:A10 & N5:n10) I selected both rows at once. I hit the control button and used the mouse to highlight the first range. I held the control button down and highlighted the next range with the mouse. Then I clicked on insert a 2d pie chart. And all that came up was a pie chart with no information on it. I tried holding the control button down while i clicked insert pie chart and still all i got was a big blue circle with no info on it. If anyone could please tell me how to do this I'd greatly appreciate it! thanks

  • Answer:

It sounds like the problem is with your source data. You don't say what the data ranges are, but your A column must contain a list of different categories or labels, say "apples, pears, oranges" etc. Your N column must contain a series of different values, e.g. 20, 34, 16 etc.

Other answers

A simple way is to create a new table and using simple "=" formula have both rows together. On the other hand, advance users will double click on the chart and define the legend and data series. Its up to the individual user level.
