What is a College schedule like?

What is the typical schedule of a college freshman?

• Like what courses are required. I just want a list of what the typical schedule would look like. If anyone has a list of courses they had it'd be great.

  College doesn't work that way. There are 4000+ different colleges with 100's of different majors - each is different. Add to that, colleges don't teach freshman level courses one time only each semester so what Joe's schedule looks like might be way different from what Jane's schedule looks like. For example: at a typical large university every single new freshman will take English 101 - Freshman Comp. The school will offer that class perhaps in fifty different classrooms at different times on different days during the semester. Some people will take it at 7:30-8:30 AM on Monday, Wednesday, and Friday. Some will take it from 10 - 11:30 on Tuesday and Thursday. Some others will take it on Monday evenings from 6-9PM. Add each up, they were all in the classroom the same number of hours. Which you take depends on what you want to take and what's open when you register. Some other courses are offered once and sometimes not even every semester. If English 488 is offered only in the Fall and only in even years (and you need to take Eng 488) then you take it when it's being offered or you don't graduate. Those too effect your scheduling. A typical freshman takes 4-5 classes that first semester. If he/she has a good advisor then they're scheduled reasonably well and their schedule is something like: MWF - start about 10AM and done by 2PM with an hour for lunch (3 classes) T TH - start about 10:30AM and done by 2:30PM with an hour for lunch (2 classes) Some will get horrid schedules because that's just how it fell and do things like MWF start at 8AM get done at 6PM with many multi-hour gaps in between classes. And, my wife was an expert in getting her schedule set by her senior year such that she only went to school on Tuesday and Thursday and took the rest of the week for study and work. As for which courses you take: that depends on your major. Expect some combination of English, science (with lab), social science/history, math, and lower major courses the first semester. The idea of go to school from 8AM to 3:30PM every day of the week for the next four years is over when you get out of HS. Colleges don't function that way. You also won't be having the same class every day of the week in most classes - some you might only go to once a week. It's a severe culture shock for most freshman but you'll soon wonder why they couldn't do HS that way too.
