What is the best way to move to London?

Best way to move around London, I will be in town on July and I´m on a budget in a party of three?

  • Since I will be there with my two daughters I would like a recommendation on a safe, clean yet not expensive place to stay at. Thanks in advance and also I´d apprecciate a suggestion to move around Europe and visist other countries.

  • Answer:

Oyster Card is the cheapest way to travel around London. You can buy one at any underground station for £3 and then top it up. Make sure you come before the Olympics as you won't find a hotel room or a seat on a tube then!

Most London hotels are safe and clean. None of them are inexpensive. Move around London via the tube, using an Oyster card. Kids travel free.

The cheaper chains of hotels are Premier Inn and Travelodge. There are also some decent and not too expensive hotels in the Bloomsbury/Russell Square area. B & Bs are another inexpensive option or staying in a hotel in a pleasant suburban area like Richmond (Surrey) which has excellent public transport into central London. The best way to travel around Europe and see a lot as you move is to use the train. Rail Networks in all European countries are dense and frequent and much faster than in the U.S. Eurostar Trains run frequently from London St Pancras International Station direct to Lille, Paris and Brussels taking 2 hours 15 minutes for the journey Advance purchase returns from £69, but they do run out quickly so book well ahead They also do excellent rail/hotel packages and you can connect at Lille to other parts of France and at Brussels for Amsterdam (Holland) and various destinations in Germany. www.eurostar.com There is a lot of useful information on European rail travel on www.seat61.com If you intend to visit quite a lot of the U.K. the cheapest solution is a Britrail Pass bought before arrival here www.britrail.com www.nationalrail.co.uk (timetable information)

The Olympic Games taking place at that time means that accommodation will be hard to find, especially at inexpensive rates. http://www.visitlondon.com/accommodation-during-the-games http://www.seat61.com/
