How to allocate vector greater than 2Gb?

Minecraft, how much RAM should i allocate?

i am getting a gaming pc, with 8GB of RAM... I know that is really good for minecraft, but should i just run minecraft normally? Or should i specifically allocate more RAM? Does is really make a difference? I f i wanna make a private server, would it be good to allocate 3gb to the server, and the minecraft, so there would be 2gb left on my PC? My OVERALL QUESTION is this: if i have a really good PC wit alot of RAM, would it be faster to allocate RAM? Or to leave it alone? If it would be faster to allocate RAM, then how much should i? (ill hhave 8gb)... thanks!

No need to allocate RAM unless you are running any other program. if minecraft requires more RAM, it will take over free.As you will be having 8gb, there shouldnt be a need to allocate RAM.
