Faulty earphones with my phone! Where do I stand?

  • I got a new iphone less than 3 months ago. Last week the earphones stopped working. I went into the shop expecting for them to be able to replace them. They told me they would have to send them back to Apple for them to look at them. And send my phone back as well. I have tried the earphones on someone else's phone and it is definitely the earphones that are faulty. I couldn't really be bothered with an argument (although I'm sure they're obliged to replace) so rang customer services of the phone company. After spending 15 minutes on the phone they agreed to credit £5 to my bill for the inconvenience of a wasted trip into town but were unable to resolve anything with the earphones - "You got the phone from a shop, so they need to sort it out - we're ran separately" was their response. Should they be replacing the earphones if they are faulty? How should I proceed with this. I'm sure if I take the earphones to an Apple shop they will replace them there and then, but why should I have to pay for petrol, parking etc, go out of my way and waste hours of my life???

Most of Apples products are really nice, good next generation things, however, their headphones leave much to be desired, I had an iPod and about a month after purchasing it, the headphones pretty much deteriorated, even though I used them quite lightly. Also, I believe that the warranty on them is 30 days, but don't quote me on that one, as I don't know for sure, but if it is longer, you may be able to call them up again and request new ones on the account of the warranty, I think I would be happy they gave me gas money, but that's just me, I don't mean to be a jerk about it, I'm just telling you what I think should happen, but that doesn't mean it will

Well, sure they should. If it is still under warranty, that is. Just tell the 'Brains' that the headphones have gone. They're dead. Apple headphones are notorious for going bust. Mine did. Well, they kind of burst into flames whilst they were in my ear. Didn't get any compensation for THAT, so, uh, good luck I guess!

You stand at the cue in the store 'Customer Services' desk. Be demanding
