Community Colleges?... GED?

Is there community colleges in new york that can get me a GED and college credits at the same time?

  • Like earn my GED over a year or whatever while earning college credits without doing an actual GED test

  • Answer:

In NY State, many of the ccs offer admissions under something called "ability to benefit". You'd then take a specific series of classes, and if you pass them all, the college can grant you your GED. You need to contact the ccs near you to confirm they offer this program, but many do. However, the rules for financial aid have recently changed. In order to get financial aid to help you pay for your classes, you need a HS diploma or a GED. So if you enter a cc without a GED, you'll have to pay for your classes on your own.

yes

You may be able to take a few college classes. but normally no, you would need your GED before you could sign up for CC credited classes. You need to talk to admissions at the CC
