How do you change your Youtube name thats next to your picture on your 'My Channel' page?

I have my google account linked to my youtube account because you cant create a youtube account without one? and next to my profile picture on the 'my channel, page, near the middle of the screeen displays my actualy name. i am wondering how to change that or hide it from others so that it can show my channel name instead?

Answer:
You might have to make your channel private. I use a different name for my account than I use with my picture but I keep my channel private.
