What should I say in my follow-up call after an interview?

What to say when I call them to set up an interview?

  • I'm a bit socially awkward, but I'm trying to to be...especially since I'm actively job hunting and it requires putting myself out there. I got an e-mail from a company saying to call them back in order to set up a POTENTIAL interview. I'm afraid that when I call back, I'll ramble or I'll stutter because I'm not sure exactly how to say it. Anyone have a good dialogue to follow?

    When you call ask for the person you need to speak to. When they come on the line give your name and say that you are calling,as requested by email, to set up an interview for the position of............. They will then suggest a time. You agree with the time or not as the case may be. When a mutually available time is agreed you say thank you very much and hang up.

All you need is the info that you already have. Grab you resume and any other pertinent info and spread it out before you and then you will be ready to review and call. If need be, format the info into what is easiest for you to read/see. Make notes. Practice answering questions in front of a mirror. Upon calling, tell them who you are, why you are calling etc. Whomever you end up talking to will take it from there. Listen closely and refer to your notes when necessary. When you call and the phone is ringing, take a slow, deep breath in through your nose and expel slowly through mouth. If it is just to set up an interview, there shouldn't' be much more than appointment time talk.
