How do i delete songs off my iphone 4s?

• This is my third iphone and with all of them i have never been able to figure out how to delete songs off my actual IPHONE i have always wound up with 200+ random songs on my phone that i never listen to & take up room. I am generally pretty good at figuring these things out but apple has always managed to make things extremely difficult for me! ok so: I have hooked my iphone up to my laptop so it connects to itunes. I have tried to go to "my music" (main playlist off all songs on itunes) and delete the unwanted songs straight from the main itunes playlist on my computer.. i then updated the phone. this has only deleted the songs off itunes but they are still on my phone?! next: i looked for sooo long on itunes to find a way to see the list of songs that were actually on my iphone. not just songs on the computer. I finally was able to click on "my iphone" > "music"(magically decided to pop up) to find a list of songs on the phone. It would not let me delete any songs Or right click them or do anything to them. Some of the songs in this folder (my iphone music folder) were showing up "greyish as if deleted or untouchable" (these were the songs i had deleted 5 min before in main itunes playlist) but they were still in iphone music folder and not permanently deleted even tho they looked strange... i checked my iphone and those certain songs were still there. >:0 & now its not letting me see list of songs on iphone again all i can see is the space im using on my iphone... >:| is there anyway to delete songs directly from your iphone4s??? I just got this iphone not to long ago but have already transferred most my stuff to it. but for some reason half my music didnt transfer in the first place... now im left with 500 songs on my iphone.. 200 of them i dont even want on there an would like deleted.. and 600 of the songs i do want on my iphone are still in itunes on the computer and not on my iphone. I dont have a problem adding music to my phone, just getting songs permanently deleted from the iphone. Would it be possible to delete all the music from my iphone (without deleting pics an other info on phone), and then go threw allll my music in itunes library on computer, delete everything i dont want from itunes, and then re- add all the music i do want to my iphone??? also some of my music is not directly from itunes store if that makes a difference?? Sorry if my question is long and stupid but i am at a loss. i tried to be detailed in what i have already tried. Please be detailed in your response on what i am doing wrong and what i need to do. I never thought deleting music would be so difficult. Thank you in advance. :)

  get the song or album you want to delete swipe on the album or song to the right or left and click on the delete and that song will be gone if you want to remove all songs in one go into settings general usage then find the music click on it and swipe to the right or left and press delete and all the songs will be gone enjoy
