What does this tattoo mean?

What does this tattoo (on my dog) mean?

• Hello I've got a ten-year-old neutered male Havanese. Since we got him when he was about five-year-old, I've always wondered why he has this blue tattoo in his ear. So, the tattoo is blue and quite small, located on the inner 'flap' bit of the ear. It's like a small circle with a line through the middle - no words or numbers, just this little symbol. At first I just thought that the Vet might have put it there when he was neutered, but then I recently found what looked like a small scar along his stomach. It was about six-centermetres-long, and stretched from his.... guy bit.... to the middle of his stomach sort of thing.... So I thought that the tattoo might of been for another type of surgery?? Please answer. What is this tattoo for? Thanks in advance. *Chance*

  You're right!! The tattoo was done by the vet who neutered the dog. It's proof he's been neutered. Not all vets do the tatts these days. I wish they all did it because with older rescue dogs (females) often the spay scar has disappeared. The tattoo at least indicates the dog has been spayed/neutered. The circle with the line through it is the universal symbol of proof the dog was spayed/neutered.
