How exactly did Leonardo Da Vinci influence art in general?

Why would Leonardo da Vinci be interested in abstract art?

  • I have a paper due in Modern Art class where I have to write Leonardo da Vinci a letter to make him want to visit a surrealist and abstract art exhibit. However, I can't come up with ideas of why he would be interested in abstract art when he was clearly an academic/renaissance artist. Someone please help. Thanks!

Just because someoine is a Painter of Realism it doesn't mean that they wouldn't have an interest in Abstract Art. There are also Abstract painters who are Academics! Realism is a painting of what is accurately seen (as in photography) Abstract Art is of feelings, emotions and relationships. Surrealism is work of the sub conscious as in Dreams. I would imagine that a genius such as Leonardo, with a curiousity such as his, would be interested in most things!
