Can you join the military with easily controlled/managed breathing allergies?

Seasonal allergies and the military?

  • Do season Allergies DQ from the military? i want to join the navy EOD and i have very mild allergies. i am allergic to pollen and cat dander (i don't have to worry about cats in the military). however i'm very fit and have no problems breathing, just the occasional sneezing which isn't a big deal. it's so mild that i can't remember the last time i used allergy medication. I've read similar questions and people usually just say "don't mention it". should i do this? I'm really dedicated and want to serve my country i just hope that having minor allergies doesn't make me unfit for service. A lot of people act as if people with allergies are inferior to those who don't. this annoys me very much.

I think you should be fine (but don't take my word for it) as long as you are not allergic to the chemicals such as Charcoal, Potassium Nitrate, Sulfur etc...

I'm not sure how exactly the Navy does it, but in the Army allergies aren't that big of a deal. If they are really bad, and you're in a situation that might expose you to allergies, you'll be asked ahead of time so that your superiors or medics will know. You might even have to wear something on your id tags if your highly allergic to something. But if it isn't extreme then I wouldn't even waste time mentioning it. You're not going to be exposed to cats at work and everyone gets a little bothered by pollen. I sure do!
