Metal Detectors in Airports?
-
I am flying out of Columbus airport, in Ohio, and on the way home flying out of MacArthur airport in Long Island. It is my first time flying in four years, and I must admit am pretty nervous, with all the terrorist stuff and all the crazy things crazy people can do!! Anyways, I have two titanium rods along my spine and 22 titanium screws, and I just got them 1 1/2 years ago, so I've never been through security with them. I was wondering if they will set off the metal detectors? My doctor will not issue me a medical card, so I'm not sure what to do! I hate having to worry about setting them off on top of also worrying about my plane going down! I know its super safe to fly but it still makes me nervous! Thanks for your help! (Also, I am not opposed to any type of screening from the TSA, I would rather them do pat downs and full body scans and find something, than not do them and let someone get on a plane.)!!

Answer:
you have let the terrorists win. all they want is for people to be scared of them and you are. don't let them win. you should be more worried about something random happening to the plane to make it crash than a terrorist attack. anyways. let them know you have rods and screws before going through the metal detector. this way they are already prepared in case it does go off. they may then ask you to either do a body scan or a pat down or they may just wand you to make sure thats where the detector is detecting metal and let you pass through. what ever they do they will do it quickly and get you on your way.

I think talking to your doctor about what you should say or bring should suffice for it. I've flown many times over the last few years and it's the same as always just different looking scanners

Work as a security officer and people with pins set it off all of the time. Given you have it documented it's not a problem
