How do I make my own custom computer cursor?

I found a cute little image I'd like to use for my cursor, but... I have no idea how I can customize my cursor. Are there any sites where I can download a software (no viruses, please! And a legal, legit program.) Thank you!

Yes you can get software to customise cursors but they are fixed selections, may be software that comes with certain makes of mouse? But I have seen them on PC but where to get them , google will help you? Even in control panel you can customise pointers , nothing rally fancy though?
