Ps3 Freezing problem?
-
Yesterday my ps3 started freezing on a black screen forcing me to unplug the console from the back. I restarted it and it said I had to check for corrupted files. I clicked ok and it then attempted to load another screen and froze on a black screen. I tryed it several more times with the same result. Has this happened to anybody? How should I fix it?

Answer:
ALL PS3's freeze regardless of model and there's nothing you can do to stop or prevent it from happening. It's the system itself that freezes (and no that doesn't mean it's faulty. Remember, ALL PS3's WILL freeze.) It's actually completely normal for them to freeze. Just make sure you turn the system off properly. You have to use the power button. Clicking it usually works. It will usually delay for about 10 seconds, beep at you then shut down. Sometimes the clicking won't shut down the system. If the clicking happens to not work you MUST HOLD the power button instead. That will force shut down. It might take a while (between 30 seconds to 5 minutes sometimes) but it WILL force shut down. The completely WRONG way to turn the system off is to unplug it. NEVER EVER EVER unplug it while it's on (or when it freezes, because it's still on.) That can corrupt data on the HDD, corrupt the entire HDD itself (your system will usually have to restore itself if you unplug it and it usually corrupts some data as well despite the restore), or just simply outright kill your PS3 making it nothing more than a giant paperweight. NEVER unplug it. This is actually the main reason people break their systems. It's because of ignorance on how to shut it down properly. And then they complain about it. It's honestly common sense to not unplug any system. Doing that is fatal for most electronics. Sometimes a PS3 can freeze 5 times within 1 hour (which has happened to me) and sometimes it won't freeze for days or weeks. It just depends. You basically just outright killed your system because you were silly and unplugged it. Time to get a new one. The black screen might be there because you don't have the TV on the right input, which is a common mistake. Either way, you'd be lucky if your PS3 decided to work again. Hope that helps. P.S: The Shadow is right as well, do what he said to attempt to possibly recover your PS3 to working condition.

You did the worst thing possible , NEVER unplug a frozen ps3 , that broke the hard drive and caused the data corruption , usally the ps3 freezes telling you it needs to be fixed and if you ignore it this happens ( freezing means it has either lost internet connection ( minor ) or has some corrupted files on the system that need to be deleted ( minor if fixed right away ) , deleting the game data or saves fixes this most times the correct way to shutdown a frozen system , press the front power button and keep pressed until the ps3 resets with a soft reset There is probably no way to fix it without restoring the ps3 and formatting the hard drive now , if you can get it to turn on and access the menu go to system settings and choose restore ps3 system from the options and wait a few hours for it to complete , you'll then be able to re-download anything from your downloads list ( account management ) and reinstall any games and updates If it won't load to the xmb hold the power button for at least 10 seconds until it beeps 3 fast beeps , it should turn on and show a message to plug in a controller if done right then give 6 options , restore the ps3 and it will either work again or the hard drive will be too badly corrupted and need replacing .

I'm afraid your hard drive may have melted or some other chip. Do you play on it for long times? Is it a slim or fat one? Fat ones overheat a lot
