Airplane takes off on a runway 1/4 mile long, larger jet has same acceleration but has to achieve twice the speed, what is the length of the runway? I would appreciate anyone who helps, if you can give a brief explanation, Thank You in advance for helping a Physic's student.

Answer:
One of the equations of linear motion (probably in your textbook!) is v^2 = (v0)^2 + 2a (x - x0) In the case at hand, let's take v0 and x0 to be zero. So: v^2 = 2ax If you double the v without changing the a, you have to quadruple the x. So the runway for the larger jet needs to be 1 mile long.
