What is the genus name for the eucalyptus leaf?

Do you know the name of this tree by looking at a leaf?

  • I was walking next to eucalyptus, and I found these trees which were relatively smaller. I took a leaf of it, so I could take a photo of it later and maybe someone would recognize it and tell me the name. http://www.flickr.com/photos/78461458@N03/7190633022/in/photostream/

  • Answer:

Looks similar to rubber plant - Ficus elastica. If it is a rubber plant, then the leaf should bleed a milky-white liquid when cut - Latex! Be careful as it can cause reactions in people who are allergic and it can potentially be caustic.

The oblong shiny leaf reminds me (other than Ficus, as others have already said) of Pittosporum. Anyway, with only the leaf picture it's really a long shot. A picture of a flower or fruit would help a lot.

I am sure that it's a variety of ficus. Very interesting and attractive plant.
