Can I buy a prepaid card with cash and not a credit card?

  • okay so i really need to help my friend out he lost his wallet and really needs cash and i told him i would lend him some through prepaid card (like greendot or one of those at walgreens) but i cant use my credit card because i dont pay for it my parents do. can i simply go to walgreens buy a green dot card or visa gift card and buy it with cash and have them put the money on the card from cash? is there anyway i can do it without a credit card?

The prepaid cards whether one time use or reloadables can ONLY be paid with cash. You can't buy them with a credit card. A Greendot card will take a week at least because they will have to make a card with his name on it and that takes time. You can buy him a prepaid gift card and that one can be used immediately but they come in set amounts so you can't decide to put an amount on it because it is will only come in $25, $50 or $100, etc. If he lost his wallet... and his cash... how does he intend to pay you back? That whole story sounds fishy. Tell him he has family that should help him out. You don't ask your friends for money because you lost yours. Verify this story with his parents and only if they agree to help pay back what you give him... would I lend him the cash. In that case... he can buy the cards himself with the cash you gave him.
