How old do you have to be to get a waitressing job in NYC?

Is it possible to get a job in graphic design in NYC before I move?

• I have lived in NYC before (for 3 years), so I think it will help. I have 15 years experience in graphic design (not much web design experience unfortunately). I have decided NYC has more graphic design/desktop publishing jobs than Houston (and have done the research to back that up), plus I am much more of a 'city' person than not, so I have decided to move to NYC. I would prefer to go with a job, though I do have enough savings for several months, if needed. So right now I am trying to get a job there before I move, but I visited New York a few weeks ago and met with a couple recruiters, whose advice was basically 'move up here, then look'. So I am a bit puzzled -- is it possible to get a job in graphics/DTP before I move?

  I guess it's possible, that's not my field so I don't know how easy it would be. There are several advertising firms in NYC so I'd suggest starting your search with one of those.
