Chances of getting into graduate school program?
-
I have my BS degree in Organizational Leadership and graduated magna *** laude. I served 4 years in the military and have had a very successful past few years working in the defense contracting world. I'm chasing a dream though and applying to North Carolina State University's online Master of Animal Science degree program. Their admissions site says that take into overall consideration an applicant's GPA, letters of recommendation, and other considerations that would show their potential success in the program, specifically the distance education program. I completed my undergrad with high honors (3.6) while working full-time, serving in the National Guard and volunteering within the military community. I know I have a strong GPA, excellent letters of recommendation and proven experience in being successful in an online education program, but I do not have a degree in biology or zoology, which the University recommends (doesn't require). What's the reality of me having a strong change in getting accepted? I have been accepted into two other graduate schools, but both master's programs were business related. Thanks in advance for any advice/input that will make my application as strong as possible.

Answer:
pretty slim if any, because your undergrad degree was not science or animal or medically related.

Fairly good. However you will need to take a fair number of undergrad pre-requisites. Also note that online programs will rarely come with a graduate assistanceship (GA) the way that programs at the school will often have. A GA pays your tuition and pays you a stipend to help with living expenses. Also consider an MSc in Technology Management or Engineering Management. My daughter took one specializing in Transportation and she got school funding for 3/4 of the cost and got a full ride for a PhD. She had to take only one undergrad makeup course. In this field you can often make an engineer's salary. When my daughter took this, all classes were in the evenings and if she wanted to, she could have worked full time while doing it.
