What are some good Celtic folk songs?

Any good British folk songs/folk song groups?

  • I am a little old-fashioned and prefer songs to have a story, or at least well-thought out lyrics. I am familiar with a lot of old Irish songs and like listening to the Dubliners, but would like a little more variety. I'd prefer songs in English, but, heck if it is really musically something, I'll take Welsh, Scotch-Gaelic or, even Cornish.

Tony b's recommendations are absolutely excellent. Jim Moray's Skulk album is on constant replay on my iPod. Other artists/bands to research:- Imagined Village Eliza Carthy Bella Hardy Bellowhead Jackie Oates (sister of Jim Moray) If you want Cornish then Port Isaacs's Fisherman's Friends is the best album.
