How to share my printer via 7 to xp?

Cannot share printer from win. 7 64 ult to win xp?

  • I am familiar with how to share a printer but am hitting a bump in the process. I have my printer installed on a Win. 7 Ult. 64 machine now and want to share it with a Win. XP computer. I turned on the printer sharing and file sharing, i can share the printer fine, but when the XP pc goes to connect to it, I am prompted for a user name and password? Is this something new to win. 7 and if so, how do I turn this off? Any advice is greatly appreciated and thanks in advance. Best answer lands the 10!

  • Answer:

My Windows is not in English, so the menus I'm writing may not be the same.. Open Network and sharing center (right click on network connection icon) From the left upper corner, choose the third link, Advanced sharing options Choose the network connection profile you want to configure (probably home, not pubic,-your call) and click the arrow next to it to expand the options. Scroll down and you will see an option "password protected sharing" or something. Disable it. Also, above it, you may have to choose "40 or 56-bit encryption" instead of 128-bit. Just try it both ways. Press the save changes at the bottom I think that would solve your problem. Good luck.
