Can I take an AP exam if I am in College already?

Is it considered strange to take college and the AP exam at the end of the year?

  • Early college (through high school) that is...Would that be considered strange to universities? If I feel I've learned a lot in College Psychology or Composition or Economics and feel that I can take the AP test and pass? Because I read on many places and sites that universities prefer AP over early college/dual enrollment. AP is the standardized one. But I would rather take the half semester College class (with guaranteed college credit) than a full year of AP (risking the chance of getting college credit or not) . There are some bad AP teachers in my school too and I can't choose teachers. I can choose teachers in the community college though, along with the help of ratemyprofessors.com :). Plus, I will use AP study guides along with the college classes. opinions or knowledge needed Thanks

  • Answer:

It's not a super common occurrence, but it's not unheard of, either. When I took my AP Biology exam, we had a couple kids sitting it with us who hadn't been in the AP class. The thing is, a college/university would probably view the AP class as more/tougher work than the dual enrollment class. (I'm not saying that's true; that's just what I think they'd say.) Of course, taking the AP exam and doing well on it would show that you obviously learned the same amount as the AP students. Based on your reasoning and the steps you're willing to take, I think you should go with your plan.
