I am not sure if the answers above are correct. As far as I know, some have tried to use this type of cable and have failed. The reason this is the case is because VGA is analog and HDMI is digital. Even the ebay listing that the previous answer provided has a warning about this. If your laptop is not able to output a digital signal through the VGA port (which most do not), you will need something like this. http://www.spacehifi.com.au/vga-audio-to-hdmi-converter-1080p-scaling

@Mike A has suggested a correct solution. you can order a VGA to HDMI cable online from ebay.in. http://www.ebay.in/itm/VGA-HDMI-Cable-Gold-Plated-1-5M-Double-FERRITES-/190677441896?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_203&hash=item2c6542dd68 This is a 1.5 meter long cable. If you need more options about length you may search ebay.in http://www.ebay.in/sch/i.html?_nkw=HDMI+to+VGA&_sacat=0&_odkw=vga+to+hdmi&_osacat=0&_trksid=p3286.c0.m270.l1313

I know exactly what you need to pull this off. You need a VGA to HDMI cable. They do exist. I would suggest making sure that the cable is long enough to connect to both devices, as some cables tend to be a bit short. The laptop will need to be connected via the cable, then you will want to go into the display properties and alter the settings. What you will want to do is add it as a second display, then you need to reboot your laptop. when it boots up, it will appear as an extension of your desktop, meaning once you drag your cursor to the right edge of the screen, it will appear on the tv. Open any applications, then drag and drop it into the extension and you've got what you need. I have done this with an external monitor. I run a game every week, and I have someone who makes maps. We put the maps and other visuals up on the monitor, so people have a better visual of what's going on. And that's the best advice I can give.
