There may be network or server problem" but i am well connected with internet. Is it related to the support that was available till april '12 help me people :)

  • Answer:

does your ubuntu work as it should ? are you having any problems at the moment ? if not, then why upgrade ? oh, i see, support - do you know what support means when it comes to linux ? there is no real need to upgrade to the latest and greatest bad mark me all you want, i'm a linux user and know there is no real need to upgrade, if it works then why fix it ? i'm still using a linux version from 2009 - why hasn't my system shut down, caught a virus, blown up or anything else that happens if i don't upgrade, maybe i like my system like it is, without the need for me to say "mine's better than yours because its newer"

Edit: The most important thing here is, SUPPORT. Although it is highly unlikely you will get a virus/malware with Linux, the risk do go up with a system that is no longer supported. Support, mostly means, that when security holes are found, they will no longer be patched on an un-supported system, & as time goes by, more security holes will be found, but your system will not be updated to block threats anymore. So, really, no matter how much you may like an operating system, if it is no longer supported, you should not be using it anymore. The latest version is a pretty big change from 10.10. 10.10 looks more like Windows, 12.04 looks more like Mac. In the latest version, I don't know if you will notice much of a difference except for how it looks, most of the improvments are "under the hood". I find it has more built in drivers now so that even more printers run without any additional work, adding a second monitor is recognized out of the box, where as before, I had issues plugging up my PC to my TV on 10.10. Now, 12.04 plugs up to my TV as a second monitor with no fuss. 12.04 also works with my MP3 player, 10.10 wouldn't recognize my MP3 player. These were my experiences, yours may be different, & there may be the chance you may not notice any difference, except for the look. So, just take the plunge, & don't listen to others telling you to stay on an unsupported system, it's just not safe in the long run. Go to Ubuntu's website a download the latest version 12.04 & do a clean install. http://www.ubuntu.com/download/desktop http://www.ubuntu.com/download/help/install-ubuntu-desktop 11.04 will only be supported until Oct 2012. Version 12.04 is supported for 5 years. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ubuntu_%28operating_system%29#Releases

The latest release 12.04 is much superior to 11.04. Many of the initial complaints users had with Unity have been ironed out in the intervening year: increased customization options, the Dash is more responsive, the integrated search gives much better result. If you are set on upgrading to a new version, I'd consider looking to Precise.
