Which GPA do I put on a college application?

New college graduate with a 3.15 GPA in Physics. Do I put this on my resume?

  • Ok, I'm stressing out a little bit over finding a job. Despite the fact that my GPA is low, I was a high performing student who received a full-ride from my university and was one of forty admitted into my school's honors program from my class (of ~5,000). My GPA took a massive hit when I withdrew from two classes and the Registrar decided to lose my paperwork (my GPA went from 3.6 to 3.15 instantly). I'm currently in the process of fighting them, but there is a six week statute of limitations that I missed because I didn't even know they lost the forms and now I have to jump through flaming hoops to appease them. But anyway... Given the massive scale of grade inflation in colleges, specifically among humanities and soft sciences, does this make my GPA look worthless? Should I put it on my resume or omit it and include other academic achievements? Thanks for your input.

About 90% of the time, I do agree with Eri; however, this is one time that I do not, because my aunt and cousin, whom both happen to work in Human Resource Management say that they do like to see the GPA listed on the resume... if it is a 3.0 or higher. Even the Career Counselors at the college I attended recommend placing it on the resume. I guess it is not wrong to leave it off, but I would add it. Although a 3.15 is not the greatest, it does show they did work that earned you about a B average. *it does show that you... LOL I'm sorry that my response was unclear. Let me attempt to clarify. Eri and I usually wind up answering a lot of the same questions. I almost always agree with her and she usually does have the Best Answer. This time, she and I disagree, which is very rare. I feel that all students that obtain a 3.0 or higher should include that information on their Resume; she does not.

No, don't put your GPA on your resume. If employers want it, they'll ask for it. That's even the case with high GPAs. But if you did graduate with honors (Latin, departmental, or college) then definitely mention that.
