My phone is supposedly porting with my old cell phone number. What should I do?
-
I recently dropped my old phone carrier, and got hooked in with Verizon Wireless. My new phone recieved a temporary phone number and the guy at verizon said he was going to port my old number to my new phone. My new phone will only send texts to other verizon users and will not let me call at all. The new phone still sends texts under the temporary number, but the temporary number isn't recognized by verizon when I dial 611. 611 recognizes my old phone number which i am trying to port as the number attached to the phone... but i'm not getting service under my old number. Is this normal behavior when and old number is porting to a new phone?

Answer:
not really. you're temporary number is still a full phone number so you're phone should be able to do everything normally. depending on if your phone is 3g/4g remove battery and if 4g phone remove battery and sim card for a few seconds then re-insert. if that does not work put your phone in airplane mode from your settings. on smartphones its located under settings > wireless & networks. leave it on for a few seconds then turn it back off and test your phone. if still un-sucessful you can call customer service under whichever phone number is working. if *611 doesn't work then dial 800-922-0204 from any phone. a port only takes from 4 - 24 hours to complete so you shouldnt have this problem for too much longer anyway. but if it is necessary you have your phone now follow the above steps and if you have to call customer service please do it from a third phone. if the customer service rep has to trouble shoot your phone they can't do it if you're on the phone itself
