What are good camps for a 13-year-old?

What is your opinion on Japanese Americans living in "Camps" during WWII?

  • For me, i think it was wrong moraly to do that. The president signed an executive order to gather up all Japanese and have them live in camps. Interestingly enough, Germans and Italians were at war the the U.S. too, so why werent german or italian-americans held in "camps" too? Over 120,000 Japanese were held in camps with terrible living conditions in the middle of no where. Living in desolate areas. Over 70% of the Japanese were born and raised on American soil. Also, racism was alive and well during that time. The U.S. had a history of discrimination against Asians beginning around the mid 1800s. The Supreme Court, even made a statement that was the legalization of racism. Also, the Japanese also fought alongside on the U.S military. The 442nd Japanese regiment was one of the most decorated force ever, and the Japanese were the first to liberate the Jews in internment camps. So, it all comes down to my opinion. The U.S., was sooo afraid of a group of people that they made it legal with the support of the governemt, to force the Japanese-Americans to live in "Camps". Bank accounts were frozen so none of them could retreive their money, and they were left with no choice but to sell their property and stuff, for low amount of monry, and were only allowed to bring what they could carry. Also, Japanese Americans were treated poorly with racism from caucasions because of their skin?? Housed burned down, Japanese citizens murdered, Beaten, Businesses closed down, everything precious to them were lost, and the U.S., dropped 2 atomic bombs on 2 major heavily populated cities in Japan, which killed innocent people not even involved in the war. The Japanese attacked Pearl Harbor only to get rid of the U.S fleet which was "Soldiers". The U.S. however diddnt kill troops or soldiers, they just killed innocent people, and part of the U.S reasons was to test out their new nuclear weapons as well along with radiation that killed much more after, Whats your opinions people?

  • Answer:

It was evil as hell -.- just because the bad Japanese bombed Pearl Harbor ,doesn't mean all of them are like that,Putting Them In Camps? REALLY? That's exactly what the Europeans did to to the Native americans ._. They killed them, raped them, murdered them, drugged them,EVERYTHING ELSE & Took their land :/ & I saw a documentary about the Japanese camps,it was sad, their stories T^T sorry for all the faces, anyway. Also because of their skin? Oh my gosh another thing about the media, the caucasion people brainwashed a lot of the Japanese that white skin is high-class,a true Japanese skintone color is either olive, beige or BROWN! Seriously. And that reminds me too of 911 attacks...um...they think the Muslims did it -.- So even if it was...If One Bad Muslim,All are bad? Pathetic, they are PEOPLE just like anyone else on this Earth. I'm sorry but everytime i hear 911,it just sounds planned like the American Gov. Did it on theirselves just to make Muslims look "BAD" anyway that's a whole different topic xD It's just that other people went trough similar things, "Their is so much bad in the good of us & so much good in the worse of us,it leaves none of us to bewho or judge one another,Theres bad & good people in each race, gender, religion & country" Anyway Thanks for sharing ^_^

I think it was wrong for anyone to be in those concentration camps.

There were Japaneses spies in America prior to the war. The Japaneses community knew of them and said nothing. Not unlike the supposedly "patriotic" Muslim American community before 9-11. Also, you were not alive December 8th. You are judging from your warm room and full stomach. You did not just receive a telegram telling you your father was on the Arizona. That your 13 year old was killed on base during the bombing. You were not the President of the U.S. who had a nation of angry people wanting revenge. How many Japaneses Americans would have been killed by Constitutionally legal "Militias" if FDR had not taken some action? Yes, I agree, it was wrong. But you are not looking at it through the eyes of the people involved.

The executive order was created because of paranoia from the West Coast. While most government and army officials did not expect a direct attack on the homefront, many citizens did. America has a history of behaving quite stupidly when afraid -- McCarthy and the communism threat for instance. Overall I would take the executive order as a political move to win FDR favor from the West coast and to pretty much shut them up. I agree that it was wrong force all Japanese into internment camps regardless of whether or not they were born in America. Neither Germans nor Italians attacked the US directly which is why there was less prejudice against them. The main goal of the Japanese attack on Pearl Harbor was to draw the United States into the war by destroying the carriers stationed there. It is really irrelevant that the attack was primarily focused on soldiers because -- while there was support for the British forces through Lend-Lease and the undeclared war in the Atlantic -- the United States was not yet technically part of the war. Overall the Japanese attacked Pearl Harbor to draw the United States into the war because the opinion of Western countries was that since they were consumers, they were weak. In response the Japanese "awoke a sleeping dragon" and were beaten. On the homefront Americans became paranoid and made bad decisions leading to the demise of thousands of innocent citizens.
