Why does the bottom of my foot pop when I stand up?

Foot injury, need some advice!?

  • I need some advice about this injury because I have no clue what it could be. I was playing basketball with a few friends and went to block someone. When I came down, I landed on his foot. This has happened plenty of times in my life, just a rolled ankle, usually can walk it off and be perfectly fine in a couple of days. However, this time, it was very different. I felt a great amount of pain and instantly fell to the ground. My foot swelled up a lot instantly, and the top part of my foot was completely numb. I could move my toes, but it felt weird because everything was numb... but it didn't hurt to wiggle my toes. Actually, I don't think my ankle hurt at all. I could stand up and put force on it, and it only hurt slightly. What does hurt is when I try to twist my foot in any direction... whether it be to the sides or up and down. It's been about 30 hours since it happened, and it's still very swollen. Pretty nasty bruises have appeared both above my ankle and towards the bottom of my foot. I can't walk normally, I have to take a normal step with my good foot and then swing my injured foot because, like I said, it won't arch or anything. When I go to my classes, it starts to swell up pretty badly... even if I prop it up, walking to my other classes feels awful. I've been doing the whole RICE method since it happened, and it helps while rested... but if it's not propped for about 30-45 minutes, it starts to throb and hurt. Does anyone know what could be the problem? I don't really want to go to the doctor just yet, because my mom and brother both think it's just a bad ankle roll. The thing is is I've rolled my ankle several times before, but I've never had these symptoms. Thanks for any help!

  • Answer:

no matter what every injury that hurts a substantial amount you should get checked out it may just be a hairline fracture but they can still hurt a lot. if you don't want to go to er or local doctor.. ice it and keep it elevated if possible keep it above your heart this should reduce swelling and pain good luck
