Good workouts for cheerleading?
-
I'm a Freshman in high school right now and I am trying out for cheerleading (so if I make it i'll be one as a sophomore) and try outs are in about a month, so what workouts and stretches are good for getting more flexible and what will help me do really good herkies/toe touches and what are some other really good jumps to know? It also would help to be able to do the splits and everything. I really want to make the team so any help would be great! Oh and I don't know if you need to know this but just in case, I'm 5'1 and I'm not chubby, I'm in kinda good shape. Thanks!

well i do underwater hockey and you have to be fit for that too. i do stuff like: lunges, punches, squats, step-ups, push-ups, sit-ups, running, burpies, star jumps, bridges, side bridges, planks, wall sits, crunches, walking, leg lifts, chair dips, light weights, dead lifts, etc. to tell u the truth, i dont do all of that :) but yeah.

Splits, splits splits!!!! It will help you with all your jumps and stunts! Just sit in them, even if you can't go down very far. Some people say it helps to sit in them while your watching TV. Do push ups (the 100 push up challenge is good. You don't really need to go to 100 but just repeating weeks 1 and 2 over and over will help a lot. If you google it the website will come right up.) Sit ups and toe raises are great for keeping jumps and stunts really tight. For the toe raises, just stand up and, yep, raise your toes! A good mile time is important too, because you don't want to be tired out easily by a dance and then try to stunt afterwards :/ Imagine a really worn down stunt team trying to lift someone up (that someone also being tired and wobbly) Ya, not good.... Anyways, good luck and I hope this helps!

look up gabi butler's stretching videos on youtube :) stretch for about 10 minutes every day and it eventually gets easier and you'll get more flexible. other jumps you'll need to know are pike, hurdler, and a double toe touch. be really loud and peppy at tryouts, have sharp motions, and make sure you wear something simple like a white shirt and black soffe shorts with a bow in your hair. work on your tumbling as well (try and take some classes... if you don't want to and don't have a lot at least try and do a good cartwheel or roundoff). tumbling is usually worth the least amount of points but at my school you have to at least have a back handspring for jv team.
