How to write a Business letter and Resume?

How do I write a cover letter for a volunteer position?

• I'm trying to volunteer in a position where I can get some experience and develop the PR/marketing skills I learned at school, I've found a few places but the problem is I don't know anything about them or even have that much emotional investment in their causes. I can be useful to their organization but how do I say this in a cover letter without sounding like I was just fishing around for any place to get experience? I don't know what to write in a cover letter or tailor my resume for volunteering, should I make it emotional/personal or just address them like a business? Thanks.

  The same as a business. At the minimum you'll need to thoroughly research the company. How can you be useful in PR/Marketing if you know nothing about the organization? You're not selling me on that one. I've seen people with no training land jobs. You don't have to have an emotional investment to get a feel for the company. It's all about how you present and how well you know their product/needs so that you can grab that audience, that business for them.
