How To Cut Hair?

How do you cut hair to make it look "piecey"?

  • I have long(slightly past my shoulders) straight brown hair. It's all one length. When I see my hair in photos, it looks like two brown boring rectangles on each side of my face. I don't like how it looks at all. I want it to have a different shape or kind of taper. I like how this haircut looks: http://pop.fusionradio.fm/selena-gomezs-hit-the-lights-version-2-hits-youtube/ scroll to the photo with the pink balloons Can I do this myself at home? I'm artistic so I figure I can do a decent job.

  • Answer:

To get the layered effect like Selena Gomez has you should consider that making your hair piecey may cause split ends faster, especially if you don't use the proper tools. If you don’t have styling shears, fabric scissors will work very well. Do not use blunt or loose scissors, which can bend and damage your hair instead of cutting it. The "piecey" style is called layered. It's when you cut your hair different lengths, but it's the same length on each side of your head, like two parallel lines, but they slowly descend towards the back of someone's head. …. um … I don't really know how else to describe it. Just look up layered hairstyles.
