Why doesn't my laptop let me open any programs?

Laptop freezing after opening programs/ Freezes by itself after 10-15 minutes.?

  • My laptop is a presario cq62 running on windows 7 64 bit. For the last few days anytime I try to open up a program that uses up alot of processing power or ram on start up, my laptop freezes immediately. The mouse stops moving and everything stop loading and waiting doesn't unfreeze the computer. The laptop will also freeze after 10-15 minutes even if I just let the laptop idle. Other wise my laptop boots perfectly fine and I can run some programs like chrome and a couple diagnostic tools. There may have been two causes to the computer freezing. When the problem first started I was running firefox with many tabs open and a pdf reader in the background. The laptop normally freezes when I have too many things running, but usually waiting or turning off the laptop fixes the problem. Now it freezes every time I open up a large program. Also the day before this problem started occurring, I dropped my laptop off of my bed onto a hardwood floor. There was no physical damage that I could see and the laptop still boots and runs fine. I've already run a dskchk, chkmem, and cleaned my registry and no errors have showed up in any of those tests, so my hard drive, ram, and registry shouldn't be the problem. I've also run spybot SD and avast virus protection and nothing has shown up. Any help would be much appreciated. *** One additional detail is that my laptop has always had a heating problem. The fan has always run very hot underneath the laptop but I've always made sure to keep it ventilated so it's never been much of a problem before.

  • Answer:

its still overheating, vacuum out the ventilation grids. if no help, use a can of compressed air to blow out the dust. unfortunately most of the 62 models needs to replace the thermal paste (its in a"brick") between the CPU and the heatsink. try to minimize application auto start up via; CMD>MSCONFIG>STARTUP, un check all that you are SURE are not essential delete all items in the PREFETCH folder, defragment your drive PS, change the spybot to malwarebyte and the avast to AVG, both available for free at www.download.com for registry issues, AVG PC TUNEUP is the best, will run only once for free, Cleaner is also good, free!

The registry is a database in Windows that contains important information about system hardware, installed programs and settings, and profiles of each of the user accounts on your computer. Windows continually refers to the information in the registry. You should not need to make manual changes to the registry because programs and applications typically make all the necessary changes automatically. An incorrect change to your computer's registry could render your computer inoperable. However, if a corrupt file appears in the registry, you might be required to make changes. We strongly recommend that you back up the registry before making any changes and that you only change values in the registry that you understand or have been instructed to change by a source you trust. http://registry-computer-cleaner.com
