Why do I have to take Latin at school?

Should I take latin for school?

  • Okay, let me get this straight: I know latin is a "dead language," but I only wish to take it for pure interest in the subject. I am not taking it to complete any credits for graduation, as I have already taken Spanish for three years, and is spoken at home. I am also told that it would help me for the future, such as writing classes and my aspiration to be involved in law. My only concern, however, is that it would drop my GPA, and thus, my class rank. I am only a freshman, but I really strive to become valedictorian, and since Latin is a regular class, my GPA would drop. Trust me, I am taking very challenging classes, all my classes this year are honors (with the exception of one AP), and I have signed up for four AP classes next year. Should I ignore the GPA and follow my interests? Please help, I have already messed up once and I don't want to mess up again. Thanks, Aaron.

  • Answer:

I think you should take Latin :) Latins an amazing language and very interesting to learn. Even if your GPA doesn't increase, your knowledge will, which is priceless. :)

Follow your interests. You will find Latin interesting. Plus, as you say, law terms are Latin based. You will also learn how many other things are Latin based. I really enjoyed studying Latin and I think you will too.
