How to play online on my Playstation 3?

How do i solve the online play lag problem when my PlayStation 3 is downstairs while my router is upstairs?

  • My PS3 is running on wireless connection, and downloads/updates by the PS3 are just fine but whenever I try to play any game online, there is unbearable lag. I've read that having a wired connection/ethernet cable solves the issue but the problem is that my PS3 is in a room on the first floor while the router is on the second floor. Is there any other way for a wired connection as having a long ethernet cable from my router to the PS3 is just plain unsightly (router -> corridor -> down the stairs -> room -> PS3).

  • Answer:

Wireless signal strength is based on the distance from the router and the amounts of walls and doors between the console and it. Imagine a string tied on the router and the other end tied to the PS3. The longer the string is, the weaker the signal. Also, every time the string passes through a wall or door, that further reduces the strength. If the lag is unbearable, your options are either a wired connection or moving the console closer.
