Why does my heater hose have a metal pipe connecting two rubber hoses together? somebody please explain.?
-
On my 93 topaz from the thermostat housing (I believe that's what it is) the heater hose starts out as rubber for about 1/2 foot then its clamped onto a metal pipe (which is about a foot long), which in turn is clamped to another rubber hose which then goes into the car( I believe it goes into the heater core you just can't see though). Can somebody explain to me if that's normal or if maybe they had to replace the hose but instead just rigged the part that was damaged wgich a metal pipe? I need to know bc I need to replace that metal pipr and Ive searched online and can't find anythin lile that pipe. And when I look at heater hoses for my model I noticed they only have rubber hoses. And it seems to me that they were all shorter like the 2 hoses that connect to the metal pipe in the middle that i just explained. I mean maybe I'm wrong maybe some of them are about 3 foot long and I can just replace it all with just one long rubber hose but thats why I'm here asking haha. Like I know the shortest ones are the ones that connect to the thermostat but is there any metal pipe to connect it to the other longer rubber hose that connects to the heater core? I also notice expensive ones about 70-80 bucks that looked likr they were the whole full length but I really don't have that kind of money at the moment( I've got much more to get done with this car) but can anyone please help me out and actually explain to me what this is: normal or rigged, and if I can just replace that metal pipe and if so whats it called. If not, what do I need to replace the whole set up (the three hoses). Will I need one hose, two hoses, or one full hose? Any help would be greatly appreciated but please somebody actually give me a good explanation. Idk if its the way I ask my questions, but everytime I get answers that don't help really at all or answers that are obvious and I've already tried haha. P.s. Sorry about all the typing, I went a little overboard. Couldve been wayy shorter.

position angle/curve of hose needed, if not reinforced with metal union, a regular hose can collapse under heat and pressure cause more problems. Those damn engineers are pretty smart huh?

Yes it could have been shorter.Picture.Don't panic, it's the way it is.It's professionally done right. It's braided hose molded with metal ends or couplers. It's the stock item that came with the car,It should be unless it's really rigged but i don't see it. Anyway those hoses are heat resistant wire braided hose preferably there to sustain movement, vibrations or corner better around the engine for future install & removing of some parts.U cannot clamp down high pressure hoses & hydraulic ones using hose clamps because they have metal braided inside,so the right way is to fit a metal adapter at the end of the hose where it attaches to (in this case)the heater itself. It used to be all metal in old cars but it takes spaces, too much weight on the car,can resist hit,is in the way to remove or change other things..
