Can I buy only rental car insurance?

Can I use a rental car and the insurance I buy from them for my driver's license test?

  • I am an international student in Louisiana and don't have a car. But I wanted to get a driver's license. You need to provide a car + proof of insurance to take the test but since I don't have my own car I didn't want to buy insurance. Can I use a rental car to take the test and buy insurance from the rental car? Will it be a problem since I will not be the "primary driver" on their record if I get a friend to rent it for me (since I don't have a driver license)? Does their insurance still cover me if I am not the primary driver? Does anyone have any experience with these things? Any help is greatly appreciated.

    You should consider renting a car from a driving school. They will provide a licensed instructor for three hours who will quickly check you out for proficiency in parking. He will have all the papers to show the car is insured. Your yellow pages phone book will sow many such driving schools. Renting a car with driver for the road test is a main part of their business.

No, you cannot. In order to rent a car, you must have a license. In order to merely drive a rental car, you must have a license. If you drive the car anyway and wreck it, you will NOT be covered by the renter's insurance. That means you and the renter will be responsible for ALL the damages. Bad idea

No. You can't rent a car without a valid license. You don't have a license yet. Without a license you can't be an authorized driver on a car somebody else rents.

that is not allowed - you can not use a rental car since their insurance doesn't extend to you. All DMVs as far as i know will not allow you to test in a rental car
