Is it possible for UK students to use their Uni/College card to get discount in apple stores in America?

Going to New York in September and I'm after a mac book pro. Can get education discount in this country so the 13"mac book will cost me about £850. After tax etc the mac book pro in America will work out at about £800 but with the education discount here in the UK you get an extra 2 years warranty (on top of the year you get as standard) so I would probably just pay the extra £50 and buy it here. But if it's possible for me to get education discount in New York then I'll be paying around £750 so would work out to be a good saving. Any ideas if that's possible for me to do or do I have to go to Uni/College in the US in order for me to qualify for their education discount?

Eligibility "Faculty and staff of Higher Education institutions in the United States; and students attending, or accepted into a Higher Education institution in the United States are eligible to purchase." http://store.apple.com/us/browse/open/salespolicies/edu There may also be a state sales tax on top of the listed price.
