How to become a Magazine Editor?

• Am currently in the midst of deciding what course of masters to take that would coincide with what i want to do in life. Previously i was dead set on business thus took bachelors in International Business for my undergrad, and planned on finishing it up with an MBA. However i have recently developed a passion for writting (even started a blog) and dream of starting my own magazine company one day and become the editor in chief, which leaves me in a dilemma of weather to take a whole different route for my grad school or continue on with an MBA. So in case i decided to be spontaneous and go for it, how do i become an editor? What course should i apply for? what are the best/good universities in NYC to go study for this? and can i apply for the master's level based on my bachelor's degree in international business management?

  Columbia University in Manhattan would be ideal to attend if you want to work as a magazine editor. Most of the big circulation mags have an office in Manhattan. Just remember there is a world of difference being a magazine editor and a magazine writer. A mag writer is usually freelancer except for the short articles in the magazines. A mag editor is also different than a mag copy editor. A copy editor spruces up copy, an editor depending on the importance of the article would write headlines, subheads, final copy edit, and most important story placement in the magazine. So if your grades, recommendations and standarized test scores strong enough attend Colummbia. If not try CUNY on 42nd Street and Fifth Avenue.
