How can I run faster?

  • So when I was little, I used to beat all my friends at running races, and I was just really fast, flexible and athletic. Now the friends that I used to beat 2 years ago are beating me, and they have gotten more taller than me. Are they faster than me because they're taller, or have they just gotten faster and I slower? If it's because they're taller, I'm not really sure if there's anything I can do about that since I usually eat healthy and I eat alot and I'm also skinny. But if there is something I can do please give some suggestions. If they have just gotten faster, then please help me get my fast running back, like what are some exercises I can do to help me run faster? Believe me, I'm not trying to be selfish and win the races, I actually love sharing and giving other people chances like letting them win, but I just wonder why I suddenly slowed down after these 2 years? Thank you for taking your time and reading this. Please give me some helpful suggestions :)

    First of all, once your friends become taller than you, that's all they are. They can't be more taller. They might have longer legs and that could contribute to their speed. You could try to run with 5 lb ankle weights. Then if you and your friends have a race, you will be faster because you will be used to running with the 5 lb weights. That's 10 less pounds. You will feel lighter when you run and you will be faster.

I'm no expert but I have been running for health since 2006. I started out walking. I get the Runners World magazine each month and that is how I have learned to run. It is so very helpful!!! I do know that to build speed you need to work "fast TwitchFibers" these are the fibers on top of the quad. you must so speed work for this, which is 5 or 6 400 meter dashes and thats it. the next day you should try to run distance then back to speed work. this should help you with speed! Check out the magazine.....its a LIFESAVER TO ME! go buy one and read it before you decide to suscribe. Hope this helps

If your strides are similar perhaps they have learned how to run more efficiently and your endurance and strength are not equal to theirs. You can do something about your running technique to get faster times and better use of your energy and strength. Enlist the help of a running coach at school or talk to a personal trainer at a gym.
