How do I become a labor and delivery nurse?

• I have such a strong passion for pregnancy and I would love to help woman help who are going through labor, I just have no idea how to go about it. Nobody in my family has ever graduated college and I would love to be the first. All the woman in my family become CNAs and I want to aim higher! Please help me, I have no idea how to start or where to look. I live in Colorado Springs and I would have to be in a community college.

  Yay! I love seeing young people who aspire to be nurses. I started out my nursing career in labor and delivery. I loved every second of it. Well, you have a couple different options. In most areas now, in order to work in OB you have to be a registered nurse. You have to earn your BSN, Bachelor of Science in Nursing. Another route is a two year ADN, Associate Degree in Nursing. Keep your grades up! Call your local community college, and ask them about what kind of nursing programs they offer and what kind of pre-requisites they require. Keep on dreaming, and don't let anything get in the way of your goals. Being an LPN is great, but aim for your RN. When you are an RN, it opens up the way for you to work in any aspect of the medical field. Good luck, sweetie!
