Video and Film Production Schools?

Is it easier to get a job in graphic design or video production/broadcast/film?

  • I need to decide whether or not to go back to college. I went for media arts and animation, but got into graphic design instead. I can't get a job in that because of how bad the job market is, and because I didn't get a degree in it, so not enough hands on work with print production or making websites. I'm looking into going to Tribeeca Flashpoint, but I'm worried about the job placement rate. They say it was 92% for video production students and I've been editing on my own for a decade. Is it worth going back?

  • Answer:

It really depends on your portfolio. I've known people who've had no formal education but got into the industry because of their outstanding portfolio.

Yes. Further education is one of the best investments you can make. A specialized skill set is invaluable when paired with the right education, though these outside skills (such as amateur video editing, graphic design experience, and studies in media arts and animation,) are also important and should be mentioned on a resume.
